Weddle Bridge

Weddle Bridge is a 120-foot Howe truss covered bridge spanning Ames Creek near Sweet Home in Linn County, Oregon. Built in 1937, it was moved to Sankey Park in Sweet Home in 1992 to preserve it from deterioration and now serves as a pedestrian bridge and community landmark.

The bridge is named for the Weddle family, pioneer settlers in the Sweet Home area. Though no longer in vehicle service, it remains the most intact example of a Linn County covered bridge in an accessible public setting, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Weddle Bridge was constructed in 1937 and served vehicular traffic on Thomas Creek Road until the early 1990s, when structural concerns prompted Linn County to seek a preservation solution. Rather than demolish the bridge, the county relocated it in 1992 to Sankey Park in Sweet Home, where it was rehabilitated and reopened as a pedestrian bridge.

The relocation preserved both the physical structure and the community's connection to its covered bridge heritage. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 and is now the centerpiece of a riverside park that celebrates Sweet Home's pioneer and agricultural history.
